Pre Development of Platform 1

We have been trying to recover some artefacts that were removed during the changes to the area now known as Platform 1.

One of the more interesting items which has come to light is a memorial plaque to a 'Marguerite Y Alvis'. This, as you will see from the accompanying photographs, contains a rather hard hitting message on the dangers of cigarette smoking!

The preservation of the heritage of Old Station Park is important and an item like this one will hopefully be restored to a prominent position.

Does anyone have any information on the history of 'Marguerite' and the date and circumstances of this dedication?

WELCOME TO THE WEB SITE OF FRIENDS OF OLD STATION PARK

The aim of this site is to provide information on the area's history as well as up to date news of current developments of the park's infrastructure

FOSP was set up in March2008 with three main objectives

  • To improve Old Station Park for use by members of the local community for recreation and sports.
  • To encourage enjoyment of the arts and local heritage.
  • To promote good management of the space.

We need friends to be involved to ensure that any development of the park protects the space itself and that it meets the needs of the local community.

To become a friend please log in to create an account in the box alongside and follow the instructions to confirm your details or print off a copy of the Membership form and send it to our membership secretary Ana Monteiro.
