My most recent communication with you was to intimate the untimely departure of a true friend, Councillor George Roberts. His funeral, which I attended both on a personal basis and in my capacity as your Chairman, was a dignified celebration of the life of a man committed to family and community; indeed George George could be said to have been engaged in world citizenship long before this became an expression 'a la mode', having worked extensively as a civil engineer in Africa and Asia.
This new message is designed to update you on FOSP following our fourth annual Gala Day and something of a (well earned!) summer recess.
The Gala Day on 25th June was seen as an outstanding success by a wide and appreciate band of 'stakeholders', public, private and community. Witnessing Marco judging a pizza-base spinning competition between fire and police teams was one example of a sight to behold! The cutting of the ribbon on the new play active area by Stuart Murdoch of Belle and Sebastian was another high point.
Raffle prize winners on the day are to be congratulated and thanked for buying tickets, generating funds essential to FOSP being able to confidently plan for and operate events such as, notably, the Gala Day. Nor should those of you who bought tickets for the grand prize of the generously donated overnight stay at Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens consider your hopes of a win dashed; allow me to explain.
The draw has had to be delayed until we receive formal registration of a licence to conduct a ''small lottery''; the process is well under way so, in the meantime, hold on to your tickets and wait for news of a fresh date being announced.
I'm afraid we have entered into raffles (as FOSP has done since its inception) in innocence of the regulations governing small lotteries. The relevant authorities have been most understanding and are actively assisting us in addressing the unwitting oversight.
Best Regards
Neil Johnston
Chairman
