Adventure Playground

ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND A BIG HIT !

As promised, the new adventure playground which was voted for by over 500 local residents who responded to my request on behalf of FOSP (remember ''Choose it or lose it''?) is now open, in time for the school holidays.

The location is well used already by people of all ages and especially by parents with their children.

In sunshine, the area is very bright and attractive and we think the site is just about perfect for its purpose.

As I write this it is raining but the children are still there, in cagoules mostly, making their own fun despite the weather.

The children are clearly revelling in the challenges of the ropes and rigging and even some who are little more than toddlers are venturing on to the rope bridge. The only tears so far have been shed by those too little to make any progress on the climbing rock.

Come along and you will see some very impressive and intrepid play on the new equipment. It can be quite alarming to watch till we remember that the whole ground surface is well padded to prevent injury.

The increased use of the lower park level has the intended result of making the area safer and more attractive to visit or even just to stroll through.

The path from Novar Drive has been cleared to make it less gloomy and threatening for some people and is now being well used as an access to the park.

As you know, FOSP was formed to develop the neglected park space. We have completed, in partnership with the City Council and with the unstinting support of all four of our local councillors, the first two phases.

Now we move to Phase 3 which will involve removal of the unsightly and unsafe (because it is a magnet for thrown bottles) tarmac surface.

Our artist's impression below is how we envisage the finished project.

Watch this space!
